Tanzania’s forestry industry
Tanzania is located on the East African continent, south of the equator, and is the largest country in East Africa, with a land area of about 945,000 square kilometers and a forest area of about 44 million hectares, accounting for 45% of the country’s land area, including 13 million hectares of forest reserves, producing Angolan rosewood, ebony, mahogany and tannin. Ebony is particularly valuable in Tanzania and there are many different species of ebony, which are dense hardwoods that can sink in water. The wood is black and has a very good texture, which makes it a valuable decorative wood.
Who is PFP2?
PFP is a bilateral development cooperation programme organised by the Finnish government together with the Tanzanian state for a period of four years; the main aim is to promote the sustainability of planted forests and to help improve the economy and reduce poverty in Tanzania.
What does PFP2 do?
PFP is primarily designed to help micro, small and medium-sized businesses in wood processing by providing them with training and business development services. And they also build sawmills for training, with specialist machinery and equipment that can meet the needs of the sawmills.

The SHUOWEI high-frequency vacuum kiln is one of the world’s leading wood drying plants and has been used by small, medium and large timber mills, sawmills and furniture factories in various countries. FWITC purchased the new modern high frequency vacuum wood drying kiln from SHUOWEI as their training equipment; the main tasks were
1. testing samples of wood from customers.
2. providing wood drying demonstrations for everyone to better understand the process of fast wood drying
3. providing tips on the use of wood drying equipment to managers of small and medium-sized enterprises
4. sharing the value of wood dried using the high frequency vacuum wood drying kiln.
This gives SHUOWEI’s high-frequency vacuum timber drying kiln another unique value as a teaching tool to demonstrate wood drying techniques in forestry training institutes.
