Wood is a vital resource from the ever beginning for mankind, and even now technology allows many other ways to produce man-made materials, the woodworking keeps to be an important part in the constructions, it always stands for quality natural and healthy life. And Wood drying is an art to balance the water inside the wood, it is a human forced process, because you could never ignore that the purpose of drying is to make better use of the wood, but it is also important to pay more attentions, after all the better wood always comes from old trees, who has grown for hundreds of years. i once talked with a client that he had a white oak for which he actually counted the rings -257 years old. he doesn’t want to wreck that wood for the tree had grown that long. Anyway somebody’s come along and cut it down. it’s now lying in his field, he said it’s duty on him to produce the best quality wood out of that tree. Because really you know. he respected that tree I guess. it’s really the main thing.
But it is also a cruel fact that there are big chances, the wood will be damaged in the drying process, as statistics shows we have a waste factor of 30-50% for a standard conventional dehumidification drying. The worst thing that can happen is you put your wood inside of a room for two months and then you look at it and found it’s broken in half and what really you spend is not only the time and effort, it’s the value of that material.
Why is that, the main reason is the heat passing methods. for most of the wood drying process, the wood is drying by hot air or heated plates, such drying will first heat the shell (surface) of the wood and take away the water there, then the wood is harden or fixed, but you need note that the in the core there is still much water, as the heat passing to the inside, the water will comes out through the shell and being taken away the flowing air, Losing water will cause shrinkage but the shell already dried and harden so there will be a lot of stress which cause cracks and damages, in a word, the drying is from outside to inside, even you could keep watering the wood to keep the surface wet, as we already did in the traditional drying, this will be a problem as long as the heating methods remains the same.
So what is the best way to heat wood? it is the high frequency drying, its heating way is totally different from the traditional one, when you put wood in the high frequency wood drying kiln, the 6.78 MHz waves can penetrate wood deeply and dry wood from core to wood surface wholly and uniformly from the ever beginning, water molecules inside the wood are polarized–rotated- heated by friction it is a kind of inside heating, , you will find the core is with a higher temperature than the surface, this is the most ideal status we want to get.
On another side, thus drying process is much faster than the traditional way, the real operation shows that instead of weeks taken for a kiln drying, high frequency drying takes only several days, so not only do you have the advantages of the speed, the quality of the material out of this machine is just top notch.
Back to my client who have that oak trees, i am really horned that i did not let him down by my machines. Welcome any comments here and feel free to let me know your any questions.
