Working principle of vacuum kiln

How Does It Work?

Unlike traditional kilns that heat from outside-in, our high-frequency vacuum kiln uses electromagnetic energy to heat water inside the wood directly.

This “core-to-surface” drying ensures fast, uniform moisture removal—even in thick slabs—while avoiding cracks and warping.

Key Features:

  • Low-temperature drying (55°C) avoids defects

  • Uniform internal moisture distribution

  • Ideal for hardwood and mixed-thickness lumber

Shuowei Kilns VS Other Vacuum Systems

Not all vacuum kilns are created equal.
idry kiln vacuum system

Most systems use surface heating to dry wood from the outside in. That’s fine for thin boards — but once you load thicker slabs, drying slows down, and worse, the inside stays wet while the outside cracks. To work around this, you have to add heat plates and spacers, which wastes valuable space and limits what you can load.

Shuowei solves this with high-frequency heating — a smarter technology that dries from the inside out. It evenly heats thick or thin slabs without extra accessories, so you get:

  • Faster, deeper drying (even for slabs over 5” thick)

  • Mixed-thickness loads in the same batch

  • No wasted space between boards

To ensure flat, straight lumber, all Shuowei kilns come equipped with a 6-ton hydraulic pressure system, applied throughout the entire drying cycle. This reduces warping and distortion—especially important for high-value hardwoods.

Finally, our motorized timber cart system makes loading and unloading faster and easier, improving overall efficiency for your operation.

FAQ

When choosing a kiln for drying lumber, there are several factors to keep in mind. One is the size and type of wood you need to dry, as this will determine how large your kiln needs to be. You should also consider what type of controls you want on your kiln and if you will need to ventilate or insulate the space.

Step-By-Step Process:

Kiln drying lumber typically involves the following steps:

1. First, the wood is loaded into the kiln, which will usually be a large chamber with adjustable temperature and humidity controls.

2. Heaters are then used to heat up the air inside the kiln, causing moisture from the wood to evaporate and be removed. This process typically takes several hours, depending on the size and type of wood being dried.

3. Once the desired level of moisture has been reached, the kiln is allowed to cool down slowly in order to prevent cracking or warping as the wood contracts. This process typically takes several days.

4. Once the drying process is complete, the lumber can be removed from the kiln and used for a variety of purposes, depending on its final form and intended use.

Although kiln-drying lumber can be a time-consuming process, it is an important step in ensuring that the wood will retain its shape and color over time. If you are looking for high-quality wood products, it is definitely worth considering using kiln-dried lumber.

A few outcomes you can expect when constructing and assembling woodworking projects using wet lumber include warped wood and ugly broken joints. If you’ve decided to purchase this or bought green lumber to start a new project, You should consider drying the lumber as a crucial element of your woodworking plan.

Before starting any task, you must determine the moisture content in your lumber. With a moisture meter, you should aim at the following levels:

  • Exterior wood: A acceptable moisture content ranges from 9 and 14 percent
  • Interior wood: A suitable moisture content can range from 6 to 8%

The word “near enough” isn’t enough, especially when using wood for furniture production. Be aware that different kinds of wood differ in density, for instance, hardwood vs. softwood. When you measure the amount of moisture in the lumber piece, you must set your meter to match the type of wood you’re working with.

Improving The Quality Of Wood

One of the greatest advantages of kiln-dried wood is its proven high quality. Kiln-dried lumber is expected to withstand different weather conditions compared to those woods that missed out on undergoing the same process.

Through its process of absorbing moisture into wood products, it prevents the wood from deforming and warping over time, thus maximizing the money spent as well as eliminating the need to worry about the wood’s health during the sweltering summer or frigid winter months.

Extending The Life Of Wood Products

A kiln dried wood has a proven quality that is perfect for all types of conditions. Quality products mean remaining functional through the years. It ensures its longevity and durability for a long period of time without the worry of defects and problems.

Through the utilization of a kiln for drying wood, it gives the lumber product the potential for structural integrity that can be able to withstand any weather circumstances.  With that, extending its life for a longer period of time for longer utilization and better value for money.

Kiln Drying Wood Kills Bugs

It is totally inevitable that a piece of wood might contain bugs and eggs inside it, especially for lumber that has been stored for a long period of time. These bugs may cause a lot of damage to lumber and wood, and as a result, might cause you a total headache.

Another benefit of kiln-dried wood is that bugs on wood are reduced. The heating process during wood drying has enough heat to kill these unwanted bugs and eggs that are inside the wood. A great relief, indeed!
