After wrapping up the IWF International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta. I headed to Missouri on August 17, 2024. There, I had the pleasure of visiting Gene, one of our esteemed customers. Gene has been operating our high-frequency vacuum kiln for nearly two years. Gene is a seasoned international businessman; 25 years ago, he began importing bearings from China, a business that has been thriving. Hobson Hardwood, his other company, manages the supply of high-quality domestic and exotic hardwoods and offers kiln drying services using our high-frequency vacuum wood dryer.
Equipment Overview
When I saw the kiln again, it was clean and running smoothly, a testament to its durability and Gene’s care. A feeling of pride and warmth surged in me, like a father visiting his daughter who’s doing well in her new family, far from home. Our kiln has become an integral part of Gene’s operations, contributing its strength to his success.
Seeing the kiln in action was incredibly satisfying. It’s been so well-maintained that it feels like watching a cherished family member thrive. The kiln, manufactured on December 31, 2022, was initially set up with my remote assistance due to travel restrictions. Gene has since become an expert at handling it.
This model is one of our larger units, capable of holding 6,200 board feet of wood per load. It accommodates wood up to 26.2 feet long and 55 inches wide. Gene chose the button-type control panel for its durability in cold weather, which outperforms the touch-screen version in such conditions. The kiln effectively removes 120-180 liters of water daily from oak, walnut, and maple, producing beautifully kiln-dried wood in 10-14 days. Gene especially appreciates the hydraulic pressure design for keeping the wood straight and true.
