European white oak (Quercus robur) is a premium hardwood widely used in furniture and architecture, but its high density and moisture retention make it one of the toughest species to dry. Traditional air drying can take several months and still risks cracks, stress, and inconsistent quality.
In May 2025, Shuowei’s Director Carlos Sheng and his engineering team returned to Serbia to commission the country’s second high-frequency vacuum (HF-Vacuum) wood drying kiln. This installation reflects Serbia’s growing demand for advanced timber processing solutions and Shuowei’s long-term commitment to the region.
The Challenge – Why White Oak Lumber Is Difficult to Dry
European white oak (Quercus robur) is highly prized in the woodworking industry, especially for fine furniture and high-end architectural applications. However, drying this species has always been a challenge:
- Its high density slows down moisture release.
- When oak dries too quickly, it often develops surface checking and uneven tension inside the wood.
- Traditional air drying may take several months and still risks serious defects.
The Solution – HF Vacuum Kiln Technology for Oak Drying
Shuowei’s SWKD-6HFV kiln addressed these challenges with:
- By applying high-frequency waves, moisture is heated uniformly from the core outward, allowing stress to dissipate in a controlled way.
- The vacuum setting reduces water’s boiling point, allowing moisture to evaporate quickly at gentle temperatures that protect the wood.
- Moisture-balanced chamber: keeps surfaces hydrated, preventing cracks during early drying phases.
Results – 2-Inch White Oak Dried to 6–8% in 12 Days
- 50 mm (2-inch) green European white oak was successfully dried to 6–8% moisture in only 12 days.
- No cracks or defects were observed.
- Drying cycle reduced by nearly 80% compared to traditional air drying.
- Finished lumber was immediately production-ready.
Customer Experience – One Year of Stable Kiln Performance
During the visit, Shuowei’s team reconnected with Mr. Toplica Vratonjic, the pioneer who brought Serbia its first HF-Vacuum kiln in 2024. After a full year of operation:
- Fewer rejects and stable drying results across batches.
- Faster turnover enabled new production projects.
- Business expansion with stronger customer confidence.
Customer Testimonial:
“With the vacuum kiln, the issues I once faced when drying oak were completely eliminated. The machine is efficient, reliable, and the Shuowei team has been excellent with technical support. It has changed how I run my business.” — Toplica Vratonjic, Serbia
Industry Impact – Boosting Serbia’s Hardwood Processing Sector
This second installation demonstrates how HF-Vacuum technology is helping Serbian mills modernize and compete in high-value hardwood markets. By shortening drying cycles, improving quality, and reducing waste, Serbian producers can now serve demanding international buyers with confidence.
Looking Ahead – Partnership Beyond Equipment
For Shuowei, each kiln is more than a machine—it is a productivity engine for our partners. With tailored training, 24/7 technical support, and continuous innovation, Shuowei remains dedicated to helping European wood processors scale faster, reduce risks, and expand their market opportunities.
